It also supports some cable TV channels marked as "copy freely" with the WinTV-DCR-2650. WinTV v8 is an upgrade from WinTV v7, which was the previous version of the TV watching application. If you do not have either of these, you can purchase a new WinTV v10 activation code on the Hauppauge webstore for $12.95. How to get a WinTV v8 activation code or serial number




To install and activate WinTV v8 on your PC, you will need an activation code or serial number. There are two ways to get one: If you have a WinTV v7 CD-ROM or a WinTV v8.5 activation code




If you have a valid WinTV v7 CD-ROM or a WinTV v8.5 activation code, you can use them to install and activate WinTV v8 on your PC. You do not need to purchase anything else. To use your WinTV v7 CD-ROM or WinTV v8.5 activation code, follow these steps: - Insert your WinTV v7 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. To install the WinTV v8 application and driver on your PC, you will need to download the WinTV v8 installer package. There are two ways to download it: From the Hauppauge website




You can download the latest version of the WinTV v8 installer package from the Hauppauge website at https://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_wintv8.html To download it from the Hauppauge website, follow these steps: - Go to https://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_wintv8.html - Click on the Download tab and scroll down to find the link for "WinTV v8 application and TV tuner driver download package". - Click on this link and save the file to your PC. - The file name will be something like wintv85setup_37059.exe. The file size will be about 110 MB. From a backup download site




If you have trouble downloading the WinTV v8 installer package from the Hauppauge website, you can use a backup download site instead. The backup download site is hosted by Dropbox and has a mirror of the same file as on the Hauppauge website. To download it from the backup download site, follow these steps: - Go to https://www.dropbox.com/s/6n0zqy9f4xw1j0l/wintv85setup_37059.exe?dl=0 - Click on the Download button and save the file to your PC. - The file name will be wintv85setup_37059.exe. The file size will be about 110 MB. How to install the WinTV v8 application and driver




After downloading the WinTV v8 installer package, you will need to run it and follow the instructions on the screen to install the WinTV v8 application and driver on your PC. There are two scenarios depending on whether you have a CD-ROM drive or not: If you have a CD-ROM drive




If you have a CD-ROM drive, you can use it to install some of the required components for WinTV v8, such as Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package. This will save you some time and bandwidth. To install using your CD-ROM drive, follow these steps: - Insert your WinTV v7 CD -ROM into your CD-ROM drive. If you do not have a WinTV v7 CD-ROM, you can skip this step. - Run the WinTV v8 installer package that you downloaded from the Hauppauge website or the backup download site. You will be asked to accept the license agreement, choose the installation folder, and select the components to install. - If you have a WinTV v7 CD-ROM inserted, the installer will detect it and use it to install some of the required components, such as Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package. Now that you have installed and activated the WinTV v8 application on your PC, you can start using it to watch, pause, record and playback TV from your PC. Here are some of the features and functions that you can use with WinTV v8: How to watch, pause, record and playback TV from your PC




With WinTV v8, you can watch live TV from your PC using a Hauppauge TV tuner product. You can also pause, record and playback TV shows using the built-in DVR (digital video recorder) function. To watch live TV, follow these steps: - Launch the WinTV v8 application by clicking on its icon on your desktop or in your start menu. - You will see the main window of WinTV v8 with a TV screen and some buttons and menus. - To select a TV channel, you can use one of these methods: - Use the Channel Up and Channel Down buttons on the remote control or on the keyboard to scan through the available channels. - Use the Channel List button on the remote control or on the keyboard to open a list of all the available channels. You can scroll through the list using the arrow keys or the mouse wheel and select a channel by pressing Enter or clicking on it. - Use the Find Channel button on the remote control or on the keyboard to open a search box where you can type in a channel number or name and press Enter or click on Search to find it. - Use the Favorites button on the remote control or on the keyboard to open a list of your favorite channels that you have previously marked. You can select a channel by pressing Enter or clicking on it. - To pause live TV, press the Pause button on the remote control or on the keyboard. You will see a pause icon on the TV screen and a progress bar showing how much time you have paused. You can resume watching live TV by pressing the Play button on the remote control or on the keyboard. - To record live TV, press the Record button on the remote control or on the keyboard. You will see a red dot on the TV screen indicating that you are recording. You can stop recording by pressing the Stop button on the remote control or on the keyboard. The recorded file will be saved in your Videos folder with a name like "WinTV_2023_06_12_09_00_00.ts". - To playback recorded TV, press the Playback button on the remote control or on the keyboard. You will see a list of all your recorded files in your Videos folder. You can select a file by pressing Enter or clicking on it. The file will start playing in the TV screen. You can use the Play, Pause, Stop, Fast Forward, Rewind, Skip Forward and Skip Backward buttons on the remote control or on the keyboard to control the playback. How to use the new user interface and controls for live TV and recording




WinTV v8 has a new user interface for Windows 8 and Windows 10 that is more modern and intuitive than WinTV v7. It also has some new controls for live TV and recording that make it easier and faster to use. Some of the new features and functions are: - The Menu Bar: This is located at the top of the main window and has four menus: File, Edit, View and Help. You can access these menus by clicking on them with your mouse or by pressing Alt + F, Alt + E, Alt + V or Alt + H on your keyboard. These menus allow you to access various settings and options for WinTV v8, such as changing video formats, audio modes, aspect ratios, subtitles, closed captions, parental control, scheduler, signal strength monitor, etc. - The Toolbar: This is located below the menu bar and has some buttons that allow you to access some common functions quickly, such as channel list, find channel, favorites, record options, playback options, etc. You can access these buttons by clicking on them with your mouse or by pressing Ctrl + 1, Ctrl + 2, Ctrl + 3, etc. on your keyboard. - The Status Bar: This is located at the bottom of the main window and shows some information about the current channel, such as channel name, number, resolution, audio mode, signal quality, etc. You can also see the current date and time on the right side of the status bar. - The TV Screen: This is located in the center of the main window and shows the live TV or recorded TV that you are watching. You can resize the TV screen by dragging the edges or corners of the main window. You can also switch to full screen mode by double-clicking on the TV screen or by pressing F11 on your keyboard. To exit full screen mode, press Esc on your keyboard or right-click on the TV screen and select Exit Full Screen. - The Control Bar: This is located below the TV screen and has some buttons that allow you to control the live TV or recorded TV that you are watching, such as play, pause, stop, record, fast forward, rewind, skip forward, skip backward, etc. You can access these buttons by clicking on them with your mouse or by pressing Spacebar, R, F, W, S, B, etc. on your keyboard. You can also use the mouse wheel to adjust the volume or to scroll through the channels. How to access closed captions and parental control (North America only)




WinTV v8 supports closed captions and parental control for digital TV channels in North America. These features allow you to view subtitles for the hearing impaired and to block certain channels or programs based on their ratings. To access closed captions and parental control, follow these steps: - Launch the WinTV v8 application by clicking on its icon on your desktop or in your start menu. - Go to the Menu Bar and click on View. You will see two options: Closed Captions and Parental Control. - To enable or disable closed captions, click on Closed Captions. You will see a check mark next to it if it is enabled. You can also press C on your keyboard to toggle closed captions on or off. - To set up parental control, click on Parental Control. You will see a window where you can enter a four-digit password and select a rating system (USA or Canada). Click OK to save your settings. - To block or unblock channels or programs based on their ratings, go to the Channel List button on the Toolbar or press Ctrl + 1 on your keyboard. You will see a list of all the available channels with their ratings displayed next to them. You can right-click on any channel or program and select Block or Unblock from the menu. You can also press B or U on your keyboard to block or unblock the selected channel or program. - To watch a blocked channel or program, you will need to enter your password when prompted. How to use multiple tuner support and picture-in-picture mode




WinTV v8 supports multiple tuners and picture-in-picture mode. These features allow you to watch two different TV channels at the same time using two Hauppauge TV tuner products connected to your PC. To use multiple tuner support and picture-in-picture mode, follow these steps: - Launch the WinTV v8 application by clicking on its icon on your desktop or in your start menu. - Go to the Menu Bar and click on Edit. You will see an option called Tuner Settings. - Click on Tuner Settings. You will see a window where you can select which tuner product you want to use as your primary tuner and which one you want to use as your secondary tuner. You can also adjust some settings for each tuner product, such as video format, audio mode, aspect ratio, etc. Click OK to save your settings. - To watch two different TV channels at the same time using picture-in-picture mode, go to the Toolbar and click on the Picture-in-Picture button or press P on your keyboard. You will see a small TV screen appear in the corner of the main TV screen showing the secondary tuner channel. - To switch between the primary tuner channel and the secondary tuner channel, press P again on your keyboard or right-click on either TV screen and select Switch from the menu. - To move or resize the small TV screen, drag it with your mouse or use the arrow keys on your keyboard. To close it, press P again on your keyboard or right-click on it and select Close from the menu. How to use logical channel numbers (Europe only)




WinTV v8 supports logical channel numbers for digital TV channels in Europe. These are numbers that are assigned by broadcasters to their channels based on their genre or category. For example, BBC One may have a logical channel number of 1, BBC Two may have a logical channel number of 2, etc. To use logical channel numbers, follow these steps: - Launch the WinTV v8 application by clicking on its icon on your desktop or in your start menu. - Go to the Menu Bar and click on Edit. You will see an option called Channel Settings. - Click on Channel Settings . You will see a window where you can enable or disable logical channel numbers for your TV channels. You can also edit the logical channel numbers for each channel if you want to change them. Click OK to save your settings. - To watch TV using logical channel numbers, go to the Channel List button on the Toolbar or press Ctrl + 1 on your keyboard.
